Debrief on the Group.
The Salama group of Kikaikom is a group of Moslem women that come together to discuss issues concerning religion, and socio-economic development especially that geared towards women and the community at large. Salama was created as far back as 1976 with the main aim of fostering socio-economic development in the area. Membership at the moment of the completion of the project stood at 205 women coming from the villages of Takuh, Kiyan, Nkong, Nkohmbiy, Ro-oh and Luunkov. After 30 years of hard work and solidarity, the group can be regarded as having been successful in development projects in the area. A simple indicator is the increasing membership from year to year.
The Project
The group faces quite a number of problems, which range from the lack of the necessary structure for holding their meetings to lack of financial support to carry out their projects. The members of the group and KUDOC deemed the problem of lack of a suitable environment for their meetings and activities as most important from which this joint project with the group and KUDOC cropped up.
The Budget.
The voted cost, at which KUDOC financed this project, stood at 650.000 FCFA ($1250 USD or 650 ₤). This went particularly in the roofing of the community hall built by the group.
The way forward
The project was well executed and completed within the scheduled time frame and we now hope to work in close collaboration with this group in other developmental projects that they assess as need arises.
